Last week I was invited out to Willow Run Airport near Detroit to catch a special flight of Will Ward’s MiG-21 Fishbed. The aircraft is not able to fly at night, but Will wanted some video of the awesome afterburner in action. The solution? Go up at sunset! After two canceled tries, we finally got weather good enough to fly in. So, I headed out to the airport and met Will and his crew chief Don. I strapped a camera into the cockpit, Will fired that bad boy up, and went to have fun. I had a great spot to watch his takeoff, but unfortunately the tower kept him on the furthest runway for his low approaches. Still, the sky was beautiful and the afterburner looked amazing!
