Re: Gulf Coast Salute 2024

Nice to see the Gulf Coast Salute getting back into business! Tyndall AFB was all but flattened by Hurricane Michael (and indeed, I am still not back in my house after the hurricane...) and it's good to see things returning to normal. This used to be a regular every-other-year event that being local...

Re: Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show 2022

I agree that the museum at Pensacola NAS is one of the best out there. So many types of aircraft, from such a wide period, and not just aircraft, but cutaway engines as well. many times the engine cutaways are adjacent to the aircraft that flew the engine, and you can handle, touch, and rotate many ...

Re: Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show 2022

I love the sneak pass! I love getting the picture of #5's approach, with nearly no one having any clue what's about to happen! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52499312931_7394a03d16_b.jpg Got a lucky vapor poof as he passed directly in front... Print and hang! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535...

Re: Just wondering

I would imagine travel budget plays a part in that. You might have a civilian team of 4 to 6 pilots, they fly their own aircraft around to shows, but there's no money or space to fly "support" staff or narrators around the country. The big teams also want firm control over the presentation...

Re: Blue Angels (Slightly) Changed High Speed Pass After Super Hornet Transition

It looks like it was thoroughly investigated, but I wonder about some very localized atmospheric condition affecting it. I know for a fact that I've heard a sonic boom during a Super Hornet demonstration (not a Blue Angel pass but the Super Hornet demo team, and not during the actual high-speed pass...

Re: Pensacola Beach Air Show 2022

I was able to go to the Friday event. Found a good place right on the water, and although I had an umbrella for shade, the kind folks behind me let me slide back under their gazebo. There were only two of them and they had plenty of room, and I very much appreciated that! I had plenty of water in a ...

Re: tailhook legacy flight

Legacy Flight may include whatever aircraft are available at the event. There's not a fixed set of aircraft that tour for those. I've seen Hellcats, Wildcats, a Dauntless, usually flying with a Super Hornet, and nowadays the F-35C might be used as the modern aircraft. The coolest one I ever saw was ...

Re: Tampa Bay AirFest 2022

That's what I was thinking, looking at the maps and the pictures, didn't see how it would be any other way. That being a 6-hour trip for me, I think I'll have to pass. I looked up the sun position on suncalc.org, and it is pretty much directly ahead by 2PM. Behind for the morning, and left end of th...

Re: Tampa Bay AirFest 2022

Does anybody know the orientation of the show, which direction the crowd faces? I ask, because looking at the picture they have showing the box seats, those are facing directly into the sun, at least at the time the picture was taken. Can't say I'm interested in going blind during an air show...

Re: F1 moves to remove military aviation displays from races

So it's kinda looking like they're really looking to remove display of military might, with "being green" as a wink-wink-nudge-nudge let's-see-if-they-buy-into-it excuse. Those teams that are absolutely national but not using front-line fighter aircraft seem to be getting the exceptions. I...
