I will fully update the schedule later, but the F-22 demo team will now be filling in for the Thunderbirds at Wings Over Columbus (Columbus AFB) later this month.

Something I’ve always noticed about the F-22 Team and figured someone on here would know. Why does the team use F-22’s from like Tyndall AFB or Nellis AFB? (Last time I recall the demo team was based at Langley AFB but I could be wrong) but the other demo teams use jets from the base they’re stationed at.

From what I have heard, if F-22's are based at the airshow site, the F-22 team will use the local Raptors in the Demo.

All F-22's are identical, so the Team has no problem using any available Raptors and saves the cost of flying the FF 1st Fighter Wing jets.

The Team is based at Langley and will usually fly the FF 1st FW jets to most shows.

I was told by the demo pilot a couple of years ago that they use an available plane from the closest base. We had a Raptor frm Alaska here at Abbotsford.

I just remember seeing them in Smyrna back in 2016 and they were flying Tyndall jets and then I saw pictures of the team flying Nellis jets before so I was just curious. It definetly makes sense from a cost stand point though.

The F-22 team just posted that they are not able to perform at Miramar this weekend due to operational requirements. Sounds like they can't get the jets to do it I'm guessing.

I remember reading that a significant portion of the fleet is constantly on standby/forward deployment, and the limited fleet size means that only a small portion of aircraft are available for training and other nonessential operations. Here's an article about it.
