Yuma Airshow 2019
From videos Ive watched I feel like the red area is where the static and viewing area is so we're aiming North West? I do believe I saw aircraft take off the farther runway possibly? Ive seen good photos and video so while maybe not great photo conditions all day, at ertain points maybe?

Best viewing is from the paid bleachers which are about midpoint - the cross taxiway between all the runways in the aerial above and is a great spot because the performing aircraft will taxi by right in front and has good views of the runways. Corporate tents are slightly to the left and then the crowd line extends further down the left but has performing aircraft parked out in front blocking some views. To the right is the compact static display area and far right is fenced off to the rest of the performing aircraft. The light is pretty good all day and most aircraft do a banana pass from right to left. The statics are tightly packed so unless you get there super early expect people in you shots. There are also statics and other displays under some of the aircraft shelters.

The good:
The Marines! No other service in the US puts on as good a display as The Marines. Great selection of aircraft. Up close. Good flow.
Well organized. Cheap refreshments. Lots of toilets.
The bad:
The layout wasn't ideal. Tents in the way. Photo tent small. Pyro a mile from show center. Speakers too loud.
Enjoy...

I am still at the PHX airport waiting for my delayed SWA flight home (after spending the day in Tucson at the Pima Air & Space Museum). Needless to say, I haven't gone through my photos yet. However, I would add the following (and in the same format):
Good
Good flow doesn't quite describe the sustained and smooth flow of the various acts; all military except the Shockwave truck. There were few gaps in the activity (and no break for lunch either)
The AH1Z and CH53E flew.
The Osprey demo was better than what I saw at OSH a few years ago; I especially appreciated the high speed passes.
The SAF demo was pretty informative with the helicopter in sustained hover. Plenty of time to review blade blur
The AV8b performance was beyond what is usually performed at OSH; the hovering was longer as was the maneuvering back and forth.
The statics; while somewhat limited covered most of the stuff we don't see in the Midwest.
Bad
Camera bags were banned (so most of us were walking around with cameras exposed). Not my preference given the dust and while carrying sketchbooks and other stuff.
The show ended at 3:00pm and by 4:00pm security was clearing the grounds. I had no problem finding my vehicle.
It is quite a walk from the parking lot to the flight line; it seemed much longer at the end of the day.
I would go back in a minute.

So first the good!
1.Great lineup! Pretty much all mil! The F-5s, multiple F35s and Harriers flying and all the helos we don't usually see around in the midwest.
2.The static ramp was physically small, but they sure packed in quite a bit of fun stuff. All sorts of swag to be had.
3. Meeting new people. Always fun to go to a new place and see new people.
4. $5 shirts after the show.
5. The night show. F-35 burner passes in the dark was fun and the twilight warbirds with pyro was cool.
The bad:
1. The speakers....not just that they were in the way, but SOOOOOOO loud. I could barely talk to anyone right near me because it was incredibly loud. I love good audio and honestly it was clean for being that loud, but it was uncomfortably loud for too long.
2. Like mentioned above, we had extra time to kill so we planned on sticking around and letting the crowd thin out but as SOON as the show ended they were tearing everything down and and I couldn't even buy a drink. so we just slowly worked our way back to the car.
3. Very limited fence line. We arrived to the base quite early and still barely got a spot on the fence.
4. We didn't even try hard to get into the photographers pit cause it seemed pretty useless.
5. Requesting media was useless. No one on the grounds really knew a thing about it and was more of a hassle than anything. We did find 2 very nice Marines that helped us out on Friday, but that's about it.
Even though yes it seems like a lot of negatives....overall I actually really liked the show. Just turn the speakers down and sell me a pop afterwards and I'd live with the rest.

This was my 3rd trip to Yuma, and it was just as good as always. I am really glad I didn't spend the extra $$ for the photo pit. While I appreciate the effort they put in including a photo pit for the first time, I was worried it wouldn't be that great, and stuck with the $15 bleacher tickets..well worth it.
Also being in the bleachers I was far enough back form the speakers, so they didn't bother me much, and I was sitting up above them.
Always love going to a military base and seeing Military fly at the shows. It's also about the only military show that they publish the schedule, down to the minute, and almost always stick to it.
Friday was a good day to watch the practices from north of the field in the fairgrounds parking lot as well. Lots of people there watching and not worrying if I'm going to get run off is always a plus.
I also enjoy that you can buy drinks for $1, not many places can still say that. I would agree that the static area is very small, but it's what they always seem to do. Cant wait to go back, it's always a nice break from garbage midwest weather. Thanks MCAS Yuma!

Always late to the party, but I've finally got some photos to share. I'll post a few of our videos from the practice as well.
The speakers just killed me. We were going to get some awesome video of stuff we'd never seen before until they came by and 'fixed' the speaker. I had ear plugs in the entire day just for the speaker and it was still too loud...
I do want to say that security was my biggest concern coming in and they were absolutely no problem to work with. They let us in with big camera bags (we were on the media list) and my scanner got some concern but just took a minute to explain before they let me in. No issues with water or snacks or anything else. Well done Yuma security!!
Awesome lineup of a bunch of new things to me. Statics had one of everything from the USMC, all of which is pretty rare in the Midwest. I also loved the squadron tents and had to make a couple rounds before picking one shirt to get (a Tomcats squadron shirt which is awesome). If I was a collector I'd have gone broke in no time.
I wish the MAGTF was more than one of each type but I guess a smaller one day show is probably lucky to get what we got. Not sure why they launched four F-5s and only two did any sort of flybys? Also not a fan of them pausing the show right through the best part of sunset on Friday night. The whole layout on Friday night sucked too, with no fence line for the public. It took a 7-person argument to let media stay in one of the chalets that wasn't even being used. We probably would have ended up in the bleachers but I wasn't sure if standing was allowed (Oceana has apparently banned that now) so it was too risky.
