2020 US Navy F-35C Demos

Post by Flightline Uk » Thu Jun 27, 2019 1:55 pm

From ICAS:-
The U.S. Navy has announced that it has the tentative green light to fly aerobatic demonstrations at between eight and ten air shows during the 2020 season in the F-35C, the Navy's variant of the new fifth generation fighter.

Representatives from the new demo team plan to be on hand at the 2019 ICAS Convention to make the official announcement and talk details with event organizers and other industry representatives.

Yesterday Super Hornets were cancelled, today F35 demos go public. Whiplash!

This has been rumored for a while, I wonder why ICAS made a big deal about it today?

The US Navy gave a rather quick rebuke to ICAS over that post!

Yep, the Navy news this week has been an absolute mess (and this one isn't their fault). I'm not blogging anything further until it clarifies a bit.

On the other hand, not making an announcement is not the same as announcing no team, so this feels like a case of ICAS stealing the Navy's thunder a bit. Their announcement was made in reference to the convention and having pilots attend, which I would expect ICAS to have knowledge of, but they have been wrong before.

What is the final word on this?
Will the USN be doing F-35C demos?
(I realize that Covid-19 may demolish any current plans...)

The plan has always been for the F-35C to perform a semi-limited "flight profile" demo and Legacy Flights. Non-aerobatic but supposedly still pretty great. Hard turns and fast passes, just no rolls or loops. No schedule has been announced but a few shows are advertising an appearance. There's more discussion in the 2020 Nacy Tacdemos thread
