Nine injured as "Halcones" GameBird crashes in residential area

Post by Adam » Sun Sep 08, 2019 1:44 pm

Chile's military aerobatic team, the Halcones, suffered a setback yesterday when one of their new GameBird GB1s crashed during a training flight in Santiago. The team are currently in the process of transitioning from the Extra 300L to the GB1, with seven aircraft being delivered to the Chilean Air Force between July and December this year. The display debut is slated for the FIDAE show in 2020.

Unfortunately, yesterday, one of the aircraft crashed during a training flight in a residential area of Santiago, near the team's base. One person on the ground suffered minor burns, and seven more suffered from smoke inhalation. The pilot escaped from the aircraft and parachuted to safety, but sustained minor injuries to his head. It's very lucky that there were no serious injuries in this crash, and hopefully it doesn't delay the team's transition to their new fleet.
