KC-130T Crash in Mississippi, 16 Dead

Post by awal2049 » Tue Jul 11, 2017 9:06 pm

A Marine Corps reserve KC-130T based at Stewart JNGB in New York crashed in Leflore County, Mississippi on Monday, killing all 16 servicemen, 15 marines and 1 navy sailor, on board. The KC-130 took off from MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina for NAF El Centro, California as part of a training exercise. The plane spun out of control after an unknown problem occurred. Witnesses say one of the engines was trailing smoke before impact. The indentities of the deceased have not been disclosed, but I have read that seven of the members of the flight were marines from Camp Legune, NC.

There are many articles covering this, as it is a very serious and tragic crash. Here's just one.

Very bad crash. I have heard a lot of speculation on what happened from an ammo explosion to structure failure to whatever else. With the wreckage that intact it definitely looks to me like it spun in. There are also reports of a long debris field so who knows. You can see that it is inverted in the field. Bad bad way to go, and sad.

Update: the USMC grounded its entire KC-130T reserve fleet, which has affect Fat Albert as well. The Blue Angels C-130 has been sidelined again and will not be at Oshkosh.
