I plan on getting my private pilots license within the next 2 years. Have a few more important matters to care of first, but after they are done it's game on!

Out of curiosity... Are there any online resources that I could start studying now that would help me learn some of the book knowledge items on my own?

The Airplane Flying Handbook and Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge contain a lot of the knowledge you will have to know. They are both FAA documents and free for download on their website. They are also written in fairly plain language so as to be easier to digest. Best of luck to you as you move forward with your license!

Here are the respective links:

In addition to the FAA books, AOPA has some good resources on their website: https://www.aopa.org/training-and-safety/learn-to-fly

Life is not a journey to the grave intending of arriving safely in a well preserved body but rather to skid in broadside used up worn out and loudly proclaiming; Damn, what a ride!

Added a new type to my log book today when I got checked out in this Cessna 150 in Green Bay. I had been planning to check out in the 175 Skylark instead but it was left out all night and wouldn't start in the cold.
