Russia Cancels Mass Production of Su-57 PAK-FA

Post by awal2049 » Sat Jul 14, 2018 12:11 pm

The Russian government has decided it will not mass produce its newest 5th gen fighter, the Su-57. The PAK-FA was intended to replace older 4th gen Sukhoi fighters, but now the Russians will shift focus to upgrading their existing fleet of aircraft. The Russian govt explained:
The Su-57 is considered to be one of the best aircrafts produced in the world. Consequently, it does not make sense to speed up work on mass-producing the fifth-generation aircraft.
Basically, it’s “too good” to be mass produced. This has drawn the attention of skeptics who claim there were likely other technical issues that lead to this decision. The Russian military currently has 12 of the aircraft ordered.

It looks like the initial order of 12 fighters is still being filled as planned, but the aircraft won't be mass produced. They will probably continue testing with the 12 aircraft.

The initial batch.I highly doubt they would produce even 12 aircraft that wouldn't make sense.

"Deliveries of the initial batch of 12 aircraft from UAC’s Komsomolsk-on-Amur manufacturing facility “will begin shortly”

"The Russian defence ministry ordered its first batch of series-production Su-57 fighters from the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) earlier this year."

Sounds like there are more planned if I read the article .

Shocker, a new high tech aircraft with cost over runs and bugs that never seem to stop showing up? You don't say?
I mean I'm sure it'll get worked out and thing will fly, but their initial order goals definitely seemed lofty. *cough* Raptor *cough*
Maybe they'll learn not to stop production and then wish they hadn't.
