Warbird Down In Texas

Post by RyanS » Sat Nov 17, 2018 11:29 pm

A small aircraft has crashed into a parking lot in Texas.

Word going around online (backed up by a photo of the scene) is that it was a warbird. Two fatalities expected.

This photo from the scene makes it look like a pretty violent crash, but post-crash fire can sometimes make it look worse.

Although I will not post the name, the paint scheme is very recognizable. I have seen this Mustang many times, and having it lost is very sad.

Sadly believe it's P-51D "Pecos Bill" praying those fatality reports aren't confirmed

For those who didn't know, it has been confirmed that Pecos Bill went down with pilot Cowden Ward and a WWII bomber pilot he was taking for a ride. So sad.

I read about that in the news a couple days ago, it's truly a hard loss for the aviation world: a WW2 vet, an experienced pilot AND a beautiful and widely known warbird...Even those - both men and planes - who made it back after the war are still threatened by accidents and it's sad to see... We can't do anything to stop the veterans from aging and meeting their end, and it sadly looks like it's the same for their former rides.
