Yankee Air Museum Behind The Scenes 12/8/18

As part of an event for new members, I spent a few hours at the Yankee Air Museum near Detroit this past weekend. This new member orientation included some behind the scenes tours, including collections archives, Hangar One (current home of the flyables, which was hosting the B-25's 75th birthday party), and the Bomber plant that is still being renovated into the future home of the museum.

I've been to Yankee several times in the last few years, but this behind the scenes stuff was really cool to see. I was thrilled to finally set foot in the bomber plant, and they even showed off one of the original doors for us.

Their current operating hangar (known as Hangar One) is being written off for aeronautical use one year from now, so they suddenly need to build modern hangars inside of the bomber plant in order to keep those aircraft airworthy.

I only brought my cell phone that day, so here are some ok photos of the experience. It sounds like Kevin is open to shooting some videos there though, so we may have more in depth coverage of this stuff in the near future! He has some incredible knowledge that I would love to capture.
