Abby said that it's fine so there's a good chance both practices will happen1 last-Jedi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 10:22 pm So what's the smoke and visibility like today? I'm assuming a very good chance they won't be able to practice tomorrow?

Who is Abby?
I wasn't asking about the weather for the airshow, I'm wondering about today and tomorrow. Unfortunately we can't control the weather yet.

For those of you coming out tomorrow for arrivals, there is also a mini airshow between 5-8 PM sponsored by Ronald Mcdonald House. They have been doing this since 2014. It is for sick kids, and their families. Enjoy your day out tomorrow everyone. I am looking very forward to all the F-16's.

Abby is the abbreviation for the Airshow. I'm talking about tomorrow into the weekend. They said the visibility isn't bad enough to cancel anything flying.1 last-Jedi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 10:32 pm Who is Abby?

Just saw this on FB. Any idea who/what might be performing? I'd guess the CF-18 would be one.Viper93 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 10:45 pm For those of you coming out tomorrow for arrivals, there is also a mini airshow between 5-8 PM sponsored by Ronald Mcdonald House. Hoped for highlights: all the USAF fighters, including the F-15s which arrived as I was stupidly driving away last year. Not going to admit I nearly drove off King Rd. as they flew over, but... Also, the RNLAF F-35s will hopefully do a pass or three. And I'll continue to keep hope alive for an unexpected arrival.
So, who's all going to be on Huntington, or are there better options?

So this airshow can control the weather now?? lol
An airshow is not going to tell people to stay away only days away from the first show. Smoke or not.
Previous years it's been rain that cancelled the entire day of flying...this year it could be smoke.

Who said that the airshow can control weather? The airshow would say whether or not the acts can fly and as of right now they can. Tomorrow they say it should be fine and the smoke is supposed to be gone by Saturday.1 last-Jedi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 10:56 pm So this airshow can control the weather now?? lol

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been coming here to the Abbotsford show?1 last-Jedi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 10:56 pm So this airshow can control the weather now?? lol

The show hasn't been cancelled due to rain ever to my knowledge. There have been years where the downpour meant that some acts modified their performance in accordance to ceiling and visibility levels. I have never in my years of attending Abby seen an entire day cancelled.
Like those years the same rules are in effect this year. Performers will modify acts as they see fit and since the official word is the show is going on, I believe your question has been answered.

Seafair was just fine last weekend with all the smoke. Everything should be flying this weekend. Only concern I may have would be for the Snowbirds opposing solos. Not sure if the smoke would hamper their ability to spot each other?

Since the 1970's, when Abbotsford was one of the premier air shows in the world. And yes, an entire day has been cancelled due to rain in that time.
