Heavy Bombers Weekend?

Heavy Bombers Weekend?

Anyone know if the Heavy Bombers Weekend event in Janesville/Madison, WI is happening this year? I see that the EAA B-17 is scheduled to be in Madison the weekend before Oshkosh, and the CAF Airpower Tour will be in Janesville Aug. 16-20, but can't find any more info. The HBW Facebook page and website both appear to be dead. Trying to get my pre-Oshkosh plans finalized in the next couple weeks. Any information appreciated!

To answer your question, there was a bit of drama after last year's event. I am honestly not sure if it will be happening or not.

That's a real shame to hear. Hopefully if it isn't held this year, it's just a one-year hiatus. I went each of the last two years and had a great time. Being able to get close to the aircraft when they start up and taxi was better than just about any of the airshows I go to.

Aluminum Overcast will be in Madison the weekend before OSH - maybe a one aircraft HBW?

Now that we are just a couple days away, I've come to understand the plans in the area much better. It sounds like several aircraft (B-17, C-47, and some others) will be in Madison for the weekend. The CAF aircraft (B-29, P-51, amd some others) will be in Janesville for an event called Janesville CAF Warbird Weekend in August.

Ultimately with the group split in half I'm not planning to go to either.

I figured I'd look into it. The group I'm going with is staying in the Janesville area Friday night, so we were thinking of stopping by if there were going to be warbirds on display. Good thing we checked in advance!
