Favorite Airshow Performer/Performance

Post by RyanS » Fri Feb 17, 2017 2:51 pm

What is your favorite airshow performer or performance to watch?

For me it is hands down the Canadian Snowbirds. Seeing them perform at Oshkosh last year was magical!

For me I have always enjoyed pretty much everyone and everything.
However, there are a few performers/acts that do stand out to me that I have really enjoyed very much.
John Mohr - Stearman
Matt Younkin-Twin Beach Day and Night show
Northern Lights - (When they were flying the extra's)

Although it isn't a regular performer, the Collings Foundation F-4 Phantom is easily my favorite.

Among aircraft that are regularly touring, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Avro Lancaster tops my list.

It's hard to pick a single favorite, I'll break it into groups.

Military Demonstration: F-22 Raptor Demo
Warbird: P-51 Mustang "Quicksilver"
Stunt: Rob Holland
Formation Team: Thunderbirds (I may be one of the few who prefer the Tbirds to the Blues)

Warbird: Dean Cutshall's F-100

F-22, V-22 and F-16 aside, I haven't seen many of your US performers, but from what I've seen elsewhere:
Military Demo: Armée de l'Air Dassault Rafale C
Warbird: sorry, I'm an uncultured brat, don't have one...
Aerobatics: The Blades (do they count?)
Formation team: RoKAF Black Eagles, without a doubt!
Favourite overall performance: the jaw-dropping opening ceremony at LIMA last month... 7 PC-7s, 2 Su-30s, 5 Hawks and 2 Hornets from the front, another Hornet from behind with the formations crossing low over the crowd, and simultaneous explosions and fireworks all down the runway - and that was just the final 20 seconds!

Was that opening ceremony not amazing? Lima is usually great but that was just so overwhelmingly awesome.

The most amazing airshow moment I have ever seen, by far. My jaw dropped the moment it started and stayed firmly on the ground for the next 5 minutes. Incredible choreography and incredible selection of aircraft!

Military Demo: Super Hornet or Viper Demo (So hard to choose.)
Military Flyover: B1B Lancer
Warbird: P51 Mustang
Aerobatics: Rob Holland or Sean D. Tucker
Military Formation Team: Thunderbirds!
Civilian Formation Team: Aeroshell Aerobatic Team

s/n I have yet to see the Raptor Demo in person but I will see it twice this year. I have a feeling that will be my favorite demo!
