I've perused through all the posts and replies in this thread several times and I've got to say that I'm pretty damn excited to make my first trip to AirVenture. We had some schedule changes back here which opens up the opportunity to be there all week - though work still calls each day so the mornings will have to be that. I promise I had more questions so here's another...

Those of you who bought weeklong tickets/wristbands, when is usually the best time to make that purchase? As a follow-up, how long does it take for EAA to mail them to you?

I don't know if there is a good or bad time to purchase, but get them while they are "on-sale". Get them before you go to the show to avoid standing in line for them. They don't mail them until the beginning of July if I recall correctly.

Right, so the day after I have booked my flights to the US to attend AirVenture it turns out that the EAA have ticked another box in the "maximize your visitors' potential" checklist. Prime estate for those who like to photograph proceedings on or above the main runway turned into yet another garden party event venue. Not to mention that all the vintage aircraft parked in that area will now have a big white tent and assorted signage as their background. Oh, well, there's really only one aircraft I'm still hoping to photograph over the 36L threshold (the BAHF KC-97), so when that's done, there'll be no more need to return.
(For clarity's sake: to the best of my knowledge there are no plans for the KC-97 to come to Oshkosh this year. As far as I know the engine hasn't been changed yet, so it's not flying yet.)

Is the B-29 formation flight only at the beginning of the Wed night show? Any other days?

More than likely since FiFi has an AirPower Tour Stop in Dubuque, Iowa starting on the 26th.

Don’t get too excited about this, listened to it last year they spent 5 minutes talking about AirVenture and the rest was about EAA and different political issues they were helping with.

B-29 Superfortress "Doc" - probably a mix of static on-site and rides from Appleton
B-29 Superfortress "Fifi" - static and airshow flights only July 23-24
B-24 Liberator "Diamond Lil" - static and airshow flights only July 23-24
CAF's B-24 Liberator Diamond Lil will no longer be able to appear at this event or any events this year.
