The biggest airshow happening in the province of Alberta, second only to Abby in Western Canada is the Cold Lake Airshow due for the third weekend of July. 4 Wing RCAF at Cold Lake AFB is where half of Canada's front line fighter squadrons are based and other than being hosts to Maple Flag war exercises it does host an airshow every 2 years switching places with Lethbridge.
Anybody have any past experiences with this show from past years? I have never been and debating whether it is worth the 7hr drive from YYC.
In particular they do a 10 ship CF188 + Hawks and Alpha Jet swarm attack demonstrations and that really peaked my interest.
Though the static list does look pretty impressive, if there are any guest nations hanging around after any war games, that would be a huge bonus too. Anybody plan to go and any rumors of additional goodies set to appear?

Hello Bokimon,
Someone has already started a topic for this event which can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=484
Your question may be better suited being posted there rather than being posted as a secondary thread.
It is always wise to do a quick search before posting to avoid duplicate topics on the same airshow.

Oh thank you! I did not realize you made a thread on this a while back..
I guess my only real contribution would of been to include a map of its location then.

I attended the show in 2016 and it's well worth it. I made it to Cold Lake from Calgary in 5.5 hours with a pit stop in Edmonton. Getting onto the base was no problem at all. Good traffic coordination. The mass CF-18 flyby was really awesome, and the statics are excellent (Albeit very spaced apart...Prepare to walk a couple miles). 2 years ago there were around 7-8 CF-18's on display from various squadrons. The F-22 Demo alone will be worth the drive. If you wanted to break up the drive I recommend staying in the town of Bonnyville the night before, about 1/2 hour outside Cold Lake. The hotels there are usually cheaper than Cold Lake.Bokimon wrote: ↑Thu Jun 21, 2018 4:20 am Anybody have any past experiences with this show from past years? I'll be making the trip out for the F-22.
It's hard not to come out to a show with the Raptor and such amazing Canadian support.
The road trip with the family alone is enough to get everyone excited, and then we are treated with amazing performances.
This year will be fairly bittersweet for myself and the family because of the unfortunate incident with Bruce Evans that happened a couple of years ago.
