Its up to the aircrew. Technically only one aircraft of each type is "approved for display" at the airshow. The second aircraft is there because they travel in pairs and it is supposed to be parked elsewhere. In many cases, as long as they are able to get out in short order if they were recalled, they will display together. Sometimes though, they will stick to the regs and ask to park the 2nd a/c away from display.

Has there been any consideration to bringing back the 'light' side static display on the center spoke, or are those days dead and never coming back?

Most likely not returning. The centre spoke surface is not maintained by YXX and falls further into disrepair each year. No military aircraft, regardless of size, would be permitted to park on it. Even a small civilian a/c could hit a rutted crack in the concrete and strike a prop.

Moreover, the logistics of parking are too difficult with light static (centre spoke) splitting the parking lot in half and expeditious entry/parking are the biggest requests for improvement from spectators. Most people we hear from like having static display consolidated into one big area they can wander through.

Interesting,Thanks for the information. Are any of the light static planning on bringing 2 planes?

Fighters always travel in pairs, as do trainers typically. We call it the "buddy system." As above, whether they are both displayed is up to the crew.

Yes, there are 3 stationed at YYJ for the next little bit from my understanding. That was supposedly one of the three doing a circuit.

It would be great to see a new RCAF CF-18 on static. Does anyone know if they are based at Cold Lake or Bagotville?
