As we have noted many times, when it comes to historic aviation very little stays the same. Over the past few years, we have seen numerous misfortunes befall various aviation museums. The latest bad news comes from the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison, Texas. This superb facility has been in operation for over three decades and boasts an excellent collection of flying and static aircraft. However, greed never sleeps and the airport authority is apparently more interested in selling Jet A to the increasing fleet of business jets than in having a world-class museum on the field. Accordingly, public interest has been tossed to the wind and the museum’s multi-decade lease contracts with the airport are not being renewed. This means that the museum will probably close to the public early in 2024 as the process of flying, disassembling, and moving aircraft begins — a costly and time-consuming venture. Currently, a new location has not been decided upon but aircraft will be moved to two different locations until that decision is reached. Hopefully, the Cavanaugh Flight Museum will find a new home that realizes the importance of this collection to our national history.
