So looking ahead to 2024, I could be incorrect, but it seems like the 80th Anniversary of D-Day celebration will affect the aircraft that show up for this event. Anyone else have any insight on this?

WWII Weekend tends to get the same aircraft all the time. Based on the ddaysquadron Instagram post from earlier today, only one of those C-47s (Placid Lassie) was at WWII Weekend in the past. There's several C-47s within a couple hours' flight of RDG that I'm sure will be there.

WWII Weekend tends to get the same aircraft all the time. Based on the ddaysquadron Instagram post from earlier today, only one of those C-47s (Placid Lassie) was at WWII Weekend in the past. There's several C-47s within a couple hours' flight of RDG that I'm sure will be there.

They’re most likely going to be getting reddy instead for their flight across the world for that tour they’re doing. Doubt they will be there with how the schedule is with the tour be what they need to go to get the airplane ready to fly those long distances.

I concur, and still believe there'll be several C-47s and the C-53 Beach City Baby at WWII Weekend, based on the photos I've seen from past years' events. (Of another note, the MAAM actually did a long overdue makeover of their website, finally bringing it deep into the 21st century!)

I wish I could make the trip out there, even for just one day.

Well I know the ones that aren’t apart of the D-day squadron will definitely be there again. Like “luck of the Irish” and beach city baby is always there. Hopefully the schedule comes out soon. I’d love to fly on a Mustang lol.

RIP Helldiver and B-24 were taken off the list once again for another year in a row. Both have maintenance issues again. If they can find replacements like they did with the Helldiver last year and the FM-2 that would be nice.

We still have a few spots available in our WWII Weekend Photo Experience. This includes photo pit access Friday/Saturday/Sunday, a Friday sunset photo shoot, a Saturday sunrise photo shoot, and a Saturday night engine run with professional lighting. The photo pit is on the opposite side of the airfield, parking is free, the phot pit offers optimal lighting for the airshow, and private porta potties/handwashing stations area available.

RIP Helldiver and B-24 were taken off the list once again for another year in a row. Both have maintenance issues again. If they can find replacements like they did with the Helldiver last year and the FM-2 that would be nice.

They're both the only type of those examples that exist in flying condition, so a one-for-one substitution really wouldn't be fair.

I will be perfectly honest with you guys. I've stopped going to WWII Weekend a couple years before the pandemic because it got stale for me and the museum kept raising prices and really not offering one or two standout things for an increase in admission. It's pretty much the same stuff year in and year out when it comes to warbirds and it's almost always aircraft you'd see at nearly every event in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic regions, and add in the B-24/B-29, Helldiver, and all of the Airbase Georgia stuff. It was nice listening to the WWII veterans tell their stories and all the 1944-related stuff that's on display but the numbers of vets are dwindling fast.

I've looked at what's on tap for 2024 and after seeing how much it costs to get in for one day (let alone all three) and also hearing some of the major players drop out, it isn't worth it for me. Granted, they have Jim Beasley and Ed Shipley doing their Horsemen routine in the SNJs - which was AWESOME the year they did it in AC - but that's about it. Looking at what they're charging today, I'd have no issue paying it as cost isn't really a factor, but there's nothing unique that's drawing me to it.
