Former NASA astronaut, Apollo 8 commander, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, businessman, and retired United States Air Force Col. Frank Borman II, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the age of 95.
“Today we remember one of NASA’s best. Astronaut Frank Borman was a true American hero. Among his many accomplishments, he served as the commander of the Apollo 8 mission, humanity’s first mission around the Moon in 1968," said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.
He appeared at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2017, where he was featured in an evening program at EAA's Theater in the Woods featuring astronauts Walter "Walt" Cunningham, James "Jim" Lovell, Jr., Edwin Eugene "Buzz" Aldrin, Jr., Richard "Dick" Gordon, Jr., Fred Haise, Jr., Alfred "Al" Worden, Harrison "Jack" Schmitt, Joe Engle, and flight director Eugene "Gene" Kranz.

He flew the 1943 Bell P-63C-5 Kingcobra (N163FS) that he owned during air shows. This Kingcobra is currently owned by John Bagley and 163FS LLC. out of Rexburg, Idaho. This video features him flying the fighter aircraft at the Thunder Across the Valley Air Show 1998.
