For those of you wondering, this year will NOT feature the Grandstand seating/ setup. They have opted to instead have an enhanced Flight Club seating along with a new "Family Club" seating area.
I guess it's good news for those that were obstructed by it in the General Admission area, but unfortunately no high elevation this year for the photographers. I wonder if they plan on making some significant changes to the Photo Pit this year as it seems last year was a disaster.

It's not a shortage of pilots, but very busy schedule training new pilots.cf18hornet wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 8:18 pmIt's actually more of an issue of airworthy aircraft than a shortage of pilots. Last year there was a point in which one-third of all Navy Super Hornets aircraft were actually airworthy and not down for maintenance.

Yes they are busy training pilots because of the lack of available airframes. There just aren't any extra airframes to spare for airshow demos. Which is why they only had an abbreviated schedule last year.101voodoo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 4:03 amIt's not a shortage of pilots, but very busy schedule training new pilots.cf18hornet wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 8:18 pmIt's actually more of an issue of airworthy aircraft than a shortage of pilots. Not to get anyones hopes up and this is my own suspicion but Abby is the only major airshow during the second weekend of August next year so I think there's a high chance of us getting them. Furthermore while looking at the airshow calendar it looks very possible they'll start in the west.

Anyone know if we will still see the CF18 Hornet Demo this year given this story in yesterday's local paper?

The CF-18 does have a schedule for 2019, and is only at Canadian shows. As the article states, it is curtailing their schedule from previous years. Less shows and none in the US, due to shortages for pilots/techs. Obviously our CF-18s are old as dirt, so keeping them in the air for airshows will probably be difficult, as it was several times last year.

It looks like they are addressing the photo pit gongshow for next year!
"The Photo Pit has also been re-imagined as the Nikon Photo Experience with a new show-centre location, more space, elevated shooting platforms and Nikon Canada’s gear loaner program and more."

Improvements to the photo pit will only work if someone takes control of those in it. People with 6' tripods standing on chairs in the 2nd row, front row people who never sit, a complete lack of etiquette and common courtesy last year, mostly because of the Blue Angels appearance.

It sounds like you should consider buying tickets for the VIP chalets instead of the photo pit
