Re: Essential RC 4K video

I photograph a lot of the RC events in MAAC Zone G (Ottawa Valley & area) plus a couple of jet events in another zone which are run at full scale airports. Our rules don't allow mixing full scale & RC thanks to an expensive accident many years ago. Depending on the event we usually allow 3 t...

Re: Essential RC 4K video

Why was he allowed to take off with someone in his flight path? Looks like someone was on the far end of the runway retrieving a Hawk. Also why did he take off L to R but land R to L. Changing winds or very calm?

Re: Lens Upgrades

You i haven't really said just what the intended use is but if it's to shoot aviation you'll want the long end to be in the 400 to 600 range. A good lens & good panning skills can be rewarding but it's also important to understand that the same lens performs better on more expensive bodies becau...

Re: Every second photo blurry?

Rather than go thru my D7100 manual I looked that up & this is what I found. Certainly worth verifying that the camera in use had been set correctly.

Re: Every second photo blurry?

Is the camera set to SERVO (AI Servo) mode? Can't quite remember Nikon's exact name for this. Sound like it may be in single shot.

Edited to add that I think I remember the af servo mode as AFS on Nikon's. You need to use that setting to track moving targets.

Wingham Jets R/C event photos

For anyone interested I shoot R/C events & have just finished the albums for Wingham Jets. Of note is the new 1/4 scale F-104 owned & flown by a friend along with his F-14 Tomcat. Another friend was flying his F-4 which is an awesome thing to hear as it blasts through the sky. We had several...

Re: What Photo/Video Gear Do You Use?

What I do to avoid those higher F stops is to set my camera in Tv at the shutter speed I intend to use (but which may be over rode by Exposure Compensation as the day goes by), aim up at the sky zoomed out to the long end & adjust the ISO to be in the f8 to f 11 range. It doesn't always work out...

Re: Renting... is it worth it?

I attend Aero Gatineau (formerly Wings over Gatineau) just about every time it's on & you haven't indicated your skill level which does have an effect on my recommendations. 300 mm on a 1.5 crop body is a bit short for a lot of the flying BUT there is a learning curve to getting great results wi...

New laws effecting flying RC in Canada (includes drones)

A heads up for Canadians or those who intend to visit Canada & fly a drone while here. Effective June 1 new laws come into effect & although they look to be for drones they are actually the laws for anything RC that exceeds 250 grams & flies. Members of MAAC have been exempted as long as...

Re: A drone at an air display!

I'm a bit surprised this was approved but it's very well done. The new regs for Canada will be released June 1 and are pretty strict re anything RC over 250 grams. Fortunately MAAC members will be exempted as long as they follow all MAAC safety guidelines. Things however get a bit dicey if a club or...
