Re: KC AirShow 2021

This probably won't be a super helpful answer to your question, but at the old venue at the KC airport statics were rather challenging because of the crowd layout and there weren't a lot of them. (Did have a gorgeous Lockheed Constellation on display that belongs to the museum there, though!) Just f...

Re: EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2020

The F-22 demo is scheduled for Milwaukee weekend of July 25th and 26th. EAA doesn't have it on their schedule, but what are the chances the Raptor is staged at EAA and does a few flybys (mini-demo) on the way to Milwaukee? I think that's what happened last year as Milwaukee had a full F-22 demo. Al...

Re: US Navy Tactical Demos and Legacy Flights in 2020

Can't say that it would suck to have Legacy flights. Saw two shows do it with T-45s and two with Growlers last year, there were some really unique formations that I've never seen the standard Tacdemos do and still some great high speed passes and such.

Re: US Navy Tactical Demos and Legacy Flights in 2020

I know the very limited participation of Navy single-ship demos has been a disappointment to many the last couple of show seasons. It's a bit of a long read but the link attached is worthwhile for anybody who wants to see the reasons there was such a lack of available aircraft in the RAG squadrons t...

Re: Aviation Podcasts

I’m a bit late to this topic, definitely would second Jello’s FPP and the Skunk Works one. My additional rec would be Jocko Podcast. He’s a retired Navy SEAL who covers an extensive range of military history, lots of it going through books published by people who were in just about every war you can...

Re: EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019

Well, EAA is not really a military show. Only being there Friday/Saturday is a limiting factor since many things come and go, but.... F-22, F-35A/C, A-10, F-15 both light gray and mud hen, Growler and Super Hornet, FJ4, MiG-17, A-4, Firefly, Mosquito, Spitfire, P-40, F6F, F8F, Sea Fury, mass Mustang...

Re: EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019

I used to be much more focused on trying to get really good photos at airshows, but have gotten a lot more casual in recent years - sometimes I like to just put the camera down and experience the planes instead of chasing them through a viewfinder. Was pretty happy with this one, though.DSC_0219.JP...

Re: EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019

Re: the night shows, something I'd recommend is to start out on the flight line and then make your way towards the south end of Boeing Plaza during the show. There's always several photographers setting up in that area then to catch fireworks with the aircraft parked there. And then once the wall of...

Re: EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019

Ryan has some good thoughts, but I'll add a couple. The Brown lot is not something that I'd quite say "avoid at all costs" about, entry to the grounds there is through the EAA museum which is definitely worth taking the time to tour in its own right. Yes you do have to take a shuttle bus, ...

Re: EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019

Apologies for a brief deviation from talking about airplanes, but there's possibly enough overlapping interests and photogs who are always looking for a photo op that I figured I'd mention it here. The Union Pacific's just-restored Big Boy locomotive is going to be on tour through Wisconsin during t...
