Thinking about coming over from Europe. What would be the beat airport to fly I to. I’ve been looking at Raleigh but I would not arrive until 2pm which will make it though to make to the night show.

How does the show ground look? After looking at the map it seems to be very little room along the crowd line for me as a photographer? Where would you recommend me to stay during the show for photography?

Are there any good locations on the outside that is a good option?

Hey @tmattias ,

If you’re coming from outside the US, KRDU (Raleigh) is probably your best bet. American Airlines flies a 767 from Gatwick to Raleigh every day. It’s about a 2 hour drive on HWY 70 from there to Cherry Point, so it’s definitely possible to get there in time.

The show ground is actually fairly big. If you look at the base on Google Maps, the entire tarmac in front of runway 32R is the display area. Most of the seating up front is reserved for chalets and bleachers, so I would consider getting a seating ticket as well. The cheapest option is the $15.00 bleacher ticket which gives you an elevated position for photography (plus, nobody blocks your shot). You’ll also get private restrooms with this option. New Bern would be a good place to find a hotel.

The base is pretty big, so viewing from outside is probably not ideal. You’d be at least a mile from the action, as opposed to being right in front of it.

Hope this helps, travel safe!

I am hoping I get confirmation that EA-6B Prowlers will be flying in the show. This is likely to be the last Cherry Point show with Prowlers as they are scheduled for retirement by 2019.

It would seem to be appropriate to have some kind of farewell/sunset performance at the show.

I will plan to go IF Prowlers are featured. The current lineup is nice, but nothing I have seen before or particularly care to see.

They had Prowlers fly a decommissioning flight at the 2016 show, it would neat to see again.

Performers updated: Mike Wiskus and Greg Koonts taken off, Black Daggers added

Thanks for the tips!

How’s the bleachers for photography? Will you be able to swing a long lens (in my case a Nikon 200-500) freely without upsetting or hitting other people around you?

Well it depends on if they will be included in the MAGTF demonstration, so that is what I was trying to find out.
