I asked one of the crew of the F15 and he said they are leaving on Monday.

First post, but had to say something.

Just got back from Oceana with my six year old son and this is the LAST military-hosted airshow I will EVER attend in my life.

*Former USMC enlisted aircrew BTW, 1996-2002

Did not know or even think anything would be wrong with my camera gear , but sure enough, my 300mm Ultrasonic was a freaking national security threat and was not allowed into the 'show'.

This post 9/11 paranoia, BS has GOT to stop. I just wanted some decent shots to make some hangable prints for my son, and was told to pound sand...

Please, there is NOTHING we could photograph that would endanger ANYTHING. I left my bag with everything back in the car and just sucked it up so my kiddo could watch the blues...

I served, did my time and this isn't what America is supposed to be like. To be scowled at by green clad sailors acting like wanna-be Marines clutching M4s like the crowd consisted of Saudi nationals. Nope. Screw it. The Navy can suck eggs if they're gonna alienate civilians like this.

Civilian airshows from now on for this Marine.

What a disappointment.

Hello sir. First I understand your frustration. The camera rules recently are being egregious. However oceana did offer the opportunity to be able to bring in bigger cameras by applying for the free jet fan pass. Although the line to get it was nuts,it allowed you to bring in the camera gear you wanted and allowed you Friday access that general airshow goers don’t get.

That being said, I’ll gladly send you some photos for your son if interested free of charge. I have a 6 and 3 year old that I love hanging photos up for too.

Aaron,

Thanks man. Yeah, was pretty hot under the collar there...

I didnt know about the camera rules, and frankly didnt even think about it before going, as I've NEVER been to an airshow that restricted cameras in any way.

I appreciate the offer. I'll pm you my email if you don't mind.

Thanks!

Semper Fi,

-Sean
