Romanian Air Force coming in full force!!!

Partner Romania will offer three flight demonstrations
26.07.2019, 11:38

As this year's special partner country, NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days, Romania is planning to make full use of this role. Visitors to the event can expect a comprehensive presentation of his Air Force, including dynamic demonstrations of the MiG-21 fighter, IAR 99 Soim training aircraft and IAR 330 Puma helicopter.

These aircraft also serve as a presentation of the Romanian defense industry, which participated in their production or modernization program. The same machines will also be seen on static demonstrations, where they will be supplemented by a transport aircraft C-27J Spartan.

“This list of both dynamic and static demonstrations shows that Romania has taken on the role of partner country . We are particularly pleased to see another interesting premiere performed by the IAR 330 helicopter and to present a technique that is not commonly seen at European events, ”says Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000.“ In addition, Romania will significantly contribute to the 70's the foundation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the anniversary of our NATO accession. ”

"The performance of the Romanian MiG 21 LanceR C will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of this year's NATO Days in Ostrava. Its new display pilot demonstrates the capabilities of the machine in full acrobatic demonstration," says Jan Čadil, editor-in-chief of Aviation + Cosmonautics. "The IAR-99 Soim and IAR-330 are practically not visible abroad except for military exercises. So in their cases it is a truly rare presence, even though NATO Days have already seen the Soim show in 2010."

Legendary Soviet supersonic fighter MiG-21 belonged to the standard armament of the Eastern Bloc countries. Thanks to this, it is the most produced supersonic aircraft so far, with over 11 thousand of them being produced. It is an aircraft designed primarily for air combat, but some versions have been modified for attacks on ground targets. Romanian aircraft were upgraded to the version of the LanceR, which, among other things, allows the use of western ammunition, but is expected to be removed and replaced by US F-16 machines.

In contrast, the two-seat IAR 99 Șoim was completely developed and produced by the Romanian company Avioane Craiova and can only be found in the armament of Romania. In the 1990s, it was modernized to meet the training requirements of LanceR pilots, and is currently under development for another modernized prototype. However, the IAR 99 may not only serve as a training aircraft and may also be used for air support or reconnaissance.

IAR 330 helicopters, which are a licensed version of the French-British SA 330 Puma helicopter, will also present their combat version of SOCAT. Industria Aeronautică Română has been producing them since 1974, but the armed version of SOCAT was not established until the 1990s. The armament of this helicopter consists of a 20mm cannon, two 7.62 machine guns and up to 8 anti-tank missiles or air-to-air missiles. Romania uses about 60 units of IAR 330 helicopters, besides it IAR 330 in service also Kenya, United Arab Emirates or Sudan.

Only two-engine medium transport aircraft C-27J Spartan so did not pass through the Romanian factories, but comes from the workshop of the Italian company Alenia Aeronautica. It is primarily used to transport personnel and technology to foreign operations, but there are other specialized options. The C-27 Spartan can be found in the arsenal of many NATO states, in addition to Romania, Slovakia and Lithuania, it is also used by the United States, Italy and Greece.
