Team Yakovlevs To Stand Down After 2023 Season

Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Fri Nov 18, 2022 5:27 am

The 2023 season will be the last year that TeamYakovlevs will be display flying… After over 2000 displays across 13 countries and what will be 25 years of the team display flying…… its Hasta la vista baby. We want to say a massive thank you to all those that supported us,… and a big fat raspberry to those that didn’t. It's been an amazing 25year journey from those baby steps in 1998 to the full-on 6 ship of today.

The Yakovlevs Display Team have announced they have ceased flying operations with immediate effect. They had previously announced the 2023 Display Season would be their last.

Their statement on their Facebook page reads: "After long deliberation, the team has taken the tough decision to cease all flying operations with immediate effect.

We were hoping to have a full season displaying in 2023, but sadly that will not be the case. Thank you to those venues that did want us to display at their venue.

There are many reason..... but it is what it is. Thank you again to all that have supported us over the last 25 years."

Glad I got to see what transpired to be their final ever show at Air Legend last year. And that I was present for two of the four shows in their history where they flew as a six-ship. It was brilliant, a different league from the usual quartet, and deserved to be seen much more broadly.

Genuinely a very tricky spot for EOs now. I've been helping craft the flying display for one EO who missed their preferred military jet team and now has a Yakovlevs-shaped hole in their line up too - and there's no real candidate to replace them. Plenty of budget, nothing to spend it on.
