“Fat Albert” could soon be traveling with the Blue Angels, thanks in part to the Royal Air Force.

interesting development- but something that needs to be done. I know the Blues being without Bert has really thrown a wrench into things from time to time.

When I talked to one of the Bert pilots years ago, she stated that a C-130J would allow them to do some new maneuvers. Guess they can open the ramp in flight and stuff. Would be neat to see.

I know @razor was speculating that the Navy/Marines might not bother coughing up the budget to fix the C-130Ts, so this might be a way around that.

I do wonder whether they will perform in the aircraft or not. This new one could potentially be used for transport only.

Some new details on the effort to get a new Fat Albert came out this week thanks to NewsRadio 1620 in Pensacola. The biggest takeaway is that the new aircraft is intended to be a permanent solution, not a short-term stopgap.

NewsRadio says that the aircraft will handle transport as well as airshow performances, but that doesn't seem to be backed up by the Q/A session they posted. I sure hope airshows are part of the deal!

Interesting screenshot just sent to me on FB! It's headed for El Centro.

Too good to be true. Someone on our Facebook page added this comment:
Chris Cagle

I don’t believe it’s the new one. I have seen the same one flying on ADS-B for several months in that area of SoCal. I checked around and it’s still flying with the RAF for their ops out of El Centro. Besides that, I show ZH872 as a C.4 model while I believe the RAF only divested/retired the shorter C.5s. I think the callsign is just a funny coincidence.

I just wish this would happen already.

Many more grateful Americans deserve this photo op:

This photo is also guaranteed to terrify aircraft noise complainers. Whether harassing OLF Coupeville or MCALF Bogue, there is nothing that will scare aircraft noise complainers more than a photo of a C-130 with a Cook at the helm. How do I know? Posting this photo got me blocked from one of the Whidbey noise whiners' forums for a while!!

Also the fact this is my photo and 31 July 2015 was the best day of my life might have something to do with the above!
