This week we received great news from the Royal Navy. They will be sending examples of all their aircraft types for static display at RIAT 2020! Their new Wildcat HM2 solo display will also participate in the weekend flying display.
We have received communication from various squadrons within the US Navy who would like to send aircraft for static display at RIAT 2020. We are establishing formal contact with them and hope they will be present at Fairford in July.
Today our CEO, Operations Director & Head of Air Operations are travelling to Brussels to attend the European Airshow Council Convention. The event brings together delegates from 25 to promote excellence and safety at European Airshows. This year's convention will focus on the sustainability of airshows, in a period where Climate Change is at the forefront of many nations thinking. Our team also be networking with representatives from many European Air Arms and hope to discuss their participation plan for 2020. We therefore hope to bring you good news from EAC in next week's update!

ustria will make a welcome return to the Air Tattoo, sending a C-130K Hercules for static display. Their fleet of Hercules are all based at Hörsching Air Base and last attended the show in 2018.
At last week's European Airshow Council Convention our delegation met with a number of Air Arm representatives who spoke positively of their experiences at last year's show. Everyone stated their Air Forces are always keen to return to Fairford but sometimes budgets & operational commitments do not allow annual participation, which we appreciate.
We had detailed discussions with the Belgian Air Force about their planned support to the event, and the details of which aircraft they will send should be confirmed next month once approved by their Air Component Commander. We also discussed the importance of RIAT 2021 (the Air Tattoo's 50th Anniversary) with many of the representatives.

Looks like RIAT will also be getting the USAF F-16 Demo Team, along with a Hertiage Flight with a P-51 Mustang.

Today's series of RIAT announcements were a welcome bright spot in an otherwise grim (but understandable) day for airshows.
Looking forward to having another crack at photographing both of those demos. The Belgian demo with its great scheme gives some interesting opportunities whilst the USAF 16 has been cursed for me in terms of getting THE topside shot.

RIAT 2020 has been cancelled.
It is with enormous regret and disappointment that we have to announce the cancellation of this year's Royal International Air Tattoo, due to take place from 17 to 19 July, as a result of the challenging and unprecedented environment presented by COVID-19.
This decision has not been taken lightly and a significant amount of work sits behind this course of action. The crisis, which is worsening by the day, and the implications of which are becoming more profound, has led us to conclude that the most prudent course of action is to cease any further planning to deliver this significant event.
The Air Tattoo is reliant on the support of a wide range of stakeholders, not least the participation of international air arms, medical professionals, military security teams and our Emergency Services, many of whom are delivering a fundamental contribution to fighting this crisis. We believe delivery of our event would distract them from this.
At the heart of this difficult decision is our firm belief that staging the Air Tattoo this year would not only run counter to the current Government advice but would also be beyond what we could reasonably ask of our supporters. We recognise that our decision will have a negative financial impact on our valued suppliers and traders, on the local economy that benefits so much from the large influx of people who arrive in the area for one week in July, as well as on our parent charity. For this we apologise.
We would like to thank all our partners, the RAF, USAF, sponsors, the world's air forces, our amazing volunteers and of course the public who turn up year on year to support our magnificent event. We seek your patience and encouragement over the next few weeks as we plan for the future in order to return in 2021 to celebrate the Air Tattoo's 50th Anniversary.

Wow, wasn't expecting that one so soon. Does NOT bode well for Oshkosh. Sorry to our UK friends who were looking forward to it.
My friends are already saying that the light season this year will hopefully help them save up to get to RIAT in 2021.

Hey, well that's certainly quite a significant silver lining and a very welcome bit of positivity! Let's hope similar logic applies to some of the performers, too, and most of the acts planning on attending this year can be rolled over to 2021.
I guess the sheer size of RIAT and its reliance on international air arms makes it particularly vulnerable to this kind of thing - even if things may be on a downwards slope in the UK generally by July, there will doubtless still be many other countries affected and travel restrictions in place that'd make it nigh on impossible to put on a show up to their usual standard.

Really? I am surprised it took as long as it did.
It seems the UK is not taking this too seriously.
I expect RNIAD will be next.

In the US we are out to early/mid June for cancellations, so mid July is a bit of a jump but Adam makes an excellent point that it's largely an international affair.
Rumor has it Yeovilton has scrubbed as well but not announced it yet.
