Edmonton Airshow postponed until 2021
(Edmonton, Alberta, July 15, 2020) – The Edmonton Airshow regretfully informs our fans and the aviation and aerospace community that, despite all attempts to produce an airshow in 2020, we must postpone this year’s event until 2021.
2020 has been an extremely tumultuous year for Alberta and its major event organizers. With the COVID-19 pandemic and corresponding downturn in the economy, RCAF Snowbirds operational pause, continued closing of the Canada-US border, insurance industry uncertainty, and the collapse of global air travel and its effect on our partners at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) there are simply too many risks and unknowns to proceed. Pilot, participant, and patron safety are paramount to our organization.
The Edmonton Airshow will continue building a world-class event for Alberta and western Canadian aviation and aerospace enthusiasts to experience in 2021. We continue to enjoy the support of our partners at EIA, Sturgeon County, the Government of Alberta, and others. Our team will work together to bring the thrill of the Airshow back to Alberta, soaring higher and faster than ever.
“Although we are just as disappointed as anyone else, safety and security must be the top priority of any airport, so we support the Edmonton Airshow’s decision. This is the signature event for Villeneuve Airport and a summer highlight for the entire Edmonton Metropolitan Region, so we are 100 per cent behind putting on this great spectacle again in 2021!”
– Steve Maybee, VP of Operations and Infrastructure, EIA
“Richard is a staunch advocate for the aerospace industry and for world class events making a home in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region, and more specifically in Sturgeon County. Sturgeon will continue to work in support of our mutual interests at the Villeneuve Airport and in the aerospace industry.”
– Alanna Hnatiw, Mayor, Sturgeon County
The Edmonton Airshow will now focus on a successful return in 2021, while completing work on the 2019 Airshow. Updated information on 2019 can be found on our website:
www.edmontonairshow.com. We wish our partners, patrons, fans, vendors, performers, and nation a safe remainder of 2020 and onward. Please take care of each other, and yourself.
Mark your calendars for our tentative return August 20-22, 2021!
Until we meet again,
Richard Skermer
President, Edmonton Airshow
