Here's a different flyover! The Coast Guard Station in Traverse City, MI will be doing formation flights over their local hospitals on Friday, May 15th using three MH-60 Jayhawks. Details to follow.
Good afternoon Traverse City!

Despite the current situation with COVID-19, we here at Air Station Traverse City haven’t let our guard down and are still standing the watch, ready to respond to those in need. We are also still executing other Coast Guard missions and flying missions in support of all our great federal, state, and local partners. Finally, we haven’t stopped training, and we continue to get up in the skies to hone our flying skills. Hopefully some of you have seen us out hoisting on East Bay in the last month!

Being able to do all that flying requires a lot of behind-the-scenes aircraft maintenance work. With only three aircraft assigned to our unit, we don’t always have all three available for flight at any given time due to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requirements.

We are currently in one of those periods when all 3 of our MH-60T helicopters are “up” and ready to fly! We decided to take advantage of this and our good weather to work on some formation flight training, since we have few opportunities to practice that. We also thought it would be an excellent chance to use that training to honor our healthcare workers here in Northern Michigan, and to hopefully raise the spirits of our amazing local community. So, in conjunction with our formation training flights, we will be conducting a 3-aircraft flyover of Traverse City, Munson Hospital, and the surrounding areas this Friday, May 15th, starting at 2pm!

Exact details of routes and times for the flyover will be announced in the coming days. We’d love for you to come out and observe us. If you can make it, we ask that you follow state and local guidelines on social protocols. Hope to see you all on Friday!

F-22 Raptor and P-51D Heritage Flight near Richmond, VA for #VAFlyBy salute to front line workers battling the COVID-19 virus. The formation flew a bit south of the posted maps (or I need to improve my map-reading skills).
