I posted this on my FB page:

Thoughts are with the family and friends of Capt. Jennifer Casey, and the entire Snowbirds team on their tragic loss today.

I had the honour of meeting Capt. Casey (Capt Howell back then) in April 2018. She was the PAO for the CF-18 Demo Team aircraft then, and it was through her and Capt Jenn Halliwell (Yes, 2 Jenn H's. A bit confusing at first...) that I was able to get media access to CFB Comox to photo both the 2018 CF-18 Demo jet, and the Snowbirds.

I had an article published in the South Korean magazine Platoon soon afterwards, and thanked Capt (Howell) Casey for her assistance.

I will remember you.

This shows how soon after takeoff it crashed, and how dense the homes are spaced.
This could have been far worse.

Do you mind if I post that on our page? Or is there somewhere I can share it from? Really touching to see

What an amazing tribute!
Nearly three dozen pilots will be flying over parts of British Columbia to commemorate Canadian Forces Snowbirds Capt. Jennifer Casey, who was killed in a plane crash on Sunday during a cross-country tour to improve morale and thank front-line workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

The B.C. General Aviation Association said the mass flyover will take place on Monday evening, and has posted a statement that includes a list of 35 pilots who have signed up to pay tribute to the Snowbirds.

“Let’s pick up where the Snowbirds left off in honour of Captain Jenn Casey in their mission to fly over Canada to lift the spirits of Canadians,” they said

I am not shocked to see that the crash investigation is focusing on a bird strike as a possible cause. Someone showed me this same video shortly after the crash and it looks pretty clear to me.

It also says that the escape system performance is part of the investigation. I'm not sure if that means they suspect a failure of some sort, or if they are simply evaluating the seat envelope. It obviously played a big role in the outcome.

There have been rumors that Snowbird #5 had to pull the handle several times to punch out during the Atlanta crash last year. If that happened again, I'd have a hard time seeing the fleet returned to service.

Some interesting commentary regarding the Snowbird crash in October 2019 and possible connections to this year's crash.
