Stow Maries is a remarkable aviation heritage site. Opened in 1916, the aerodrome was a key air defence airfield in the latter stages of the First World War protecting London and South East England from air attack by Zeppelins and Gotha bombers. In 1918 it became RAF Stow Maries but was declared surplus to requirments and closed in 1919. Thanks to its remote location it was left as it was built though the buildings were used by local famers for accomodation and other agricultural uses. It was rediscovered in 2009 and designated a key heritage site in 2012 as it was the largest collection of Great War Aerodrome buildings left standing in the UK. It has since been beautifully preserved and it is now a wonderful museum and active airfield. It is also home to the World War One Aviation Heritage Trust who have a small fleet of reproduction WW1 aircraft built by TVAL. Each year it hosts a handful of special events. Thier 2021 season started with Wings and Wheels on 30th May - a full review and more images can be found HERE.
