Your #BlueAngels have been hard at work preparing for our 2021 show season! From the pilots to the maintainers, everyone is focused on building proficiency on the new Super Hornet platform and maintaining mission readiness.

For the first time this week, four Super Hornets went up to practice maneuvers performed during our signature “Diamond" formation. The “Diamond" is composed of the pilots who fly in the #1-#4 positions.

Our solo pilots, #5 and #6, were also hard at work conducting opposing maneuvers in the Super Hornet over Naval Air Station, Pensacola.

I look forward to seeing that new diamond formation performance at El Centro (Winter & Airshow), MCAS Miramar, and Huntington Beach. Not really sure about El Centro's "Festival Of Flight", since that will depend on the base's current condition by then, they'll probably evaluate that issue, to ensure the health and safety of all, but I did overhear from various people that the winter training is definite to happen in February, hopefully they can execute and plan a safe and awesome event by then.

Last week we had the unique opportunity to photograph the first #BlueAngels Super Hornet Delta over NAS Pensacola!

The Blue Angels' signature "Delta" formation is composed of the pilots who fly in the #1 - #6 positions.

Your #BlueAngels are hard at work during the first week of Winter Training at NAF El Centro, California! We are flying roughly 30 training flights per week in our new Super Hornet platform as we gear up for our 75th show season as a flight demonstration team!

Check out one of the first looks inside the Blue Angels’ new F/A-18 Super Hornets at Winter Training in El Centro! Here’s a clip from yesterday’s Diamond takeoff as they conduct the Diamond Burner Loop.

Good Afternoon #BlueAngels fans! Check out these clips from the cockpits of Lt. Cmdr. James Haley, Blue Angel #2, and Lt. Cmdr. Jim Cox, Blue Angel #4, conducting a demonstration practice over our winter training grounds in the Imperial Valley of California!

Below you can find a detailed breakdown of the signature Diamond formation maneuvers you see in the video!
The “Diamond” formation is made up of our pilots that fly positions #1 - #4.

-In the first clip, Lt. Cmdr. Haley performs the Vertical Break. This maneuver begins as the Diamond approaches from behind the crowd in trail formation, initiates a vertical climb, shifts back to diamond formation, and performs a dynamic separation maneuver. Afterwards, you’ll see #2 rendezvous with Boss and reorient his aircraft to initiate the join, in preparation for the Barrel Roll Break. In this clip, you will see #2 use his hand to press against the canopy in effort to increase his range of motion and field of view in preparation for the next maneuver.

-Next you see #2’s view as #1- #5 perform the Line Abreast Loop. Maintaining minimum separation, the pilots must align themselves by looking 90 degrees from their flight path towards Cmdr. Brian Kesselring, Blue Angel #1. They’ll initiate a vertical climb under heavy G-forces and perform the loop, then exit crowd left and shift back to Diamond formation.

-Lastly, you see Lt. Cmdr. Cox’s view on the final portion of the Low Break Cross. The Diamond will cross over center point at 500 miles per hour.
