So the Cargo Heritage Flight is happening. The P-51/Fw-190 dogfight and DH-115/MiG flight will be interesting to see.

Just got here. Looks like the forecast changed up, and there will be clouds in the afternoon. The Viper Demo team is staging here. Thought they would've stayed at Shaw given the proximity. Hopefully, we'll see Venom fly this time. The Edge 540 is indeed Bill Stein, and the P-51 is actually Swamp Fox. The commercial traffic is a lot more frequent then I remember. Hopefully all of the acts fly.
Also, the guidance coming in was not as extensive as I would've liked. If you're confused, follow my earlier post to get to Rivers Gate and follow signs that say "EVENT PARKING"

Show's over, and I'm freezing. That's a weird sentence. Difficult to shoot is right. Showline obstructions plus choppy wind from the rear made things quite challenging. I was in front of a dead speaker, but some jerk came and fixed it right before the dogfight. Not feeling good about my audio once again. The Fw-190 flight was short, but just seeing it in the air at all was awesome. A bucket list aircraft for me, so glad I could finally see it.
The Cargo Heritage Flight was cool, but the aircraft were pretty far apart. Not saying flying massive cargo planes in formation is easy, but they were definitely closer last time. Maybe it was the wind. The Black Daggers jumped from way behind the crowd, but no flag jumper. Surprised they even went for it.
I was set up at the far left end of the crowd, just like at Shaw. Was hoping to be on the right to get better lighting and more variety, but there wasn't any room up front. On the bright side, I was front and center for the Viper ground show and the Blue Angel's demo. As I feared, their demo was centered over runway 33/15 which put the whole show left of the crowd. I can understand it being frustrating to shoot. The crowd was really enthusiastic and had great camera courtesy. Better show to just watch and enjoy then try to shoot.
The Viper and Blues both flew low shows due to the clouds, but there was a good amount of vapor for both. The Blues show was a little sloppy. I know the air was rough, but they made some uncharacteristic mistakes. Blue Angel 6 missed the Delta Rejoin, then broke to land in the wrong direction. Definitely some interesting footage.
I got to say hi to Rebel, and did a lot with the static displays. Toured the AC-130, the KC-46, and saw a moon rock. Can't really complain.
Lastly, I've seen this tag floating around for the past 2 years, but haven't really believed it given how things played out. After these past two weekends, I can finally declare: AIR SHOWS ARE BACK! Let's hope they're here to stay.

That would definately be some interesting video footage! Hopefully this is just a bump in the road. I'd hate to see them have to start cancelling shows in order to polish up on more training/practices.

I must've been standing not far from you based on the speaker comment!awal2049 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 8:53 pm Show's over, and I'm freezing. That's a weird sentence. Difficult to shoot is right. I'd assumed Blue Angel 6 had an issue when he didn't initially join up with the delta.
Probably the coldest and windiest airshow I've been to in as a long as I can remember. Statics were great though and I was pleased to be able to get Rebel and the Viper Demo Team to sign a picture I took at Shaw last week.

Very nice review, thanks for sharing. I am there today and we’ll see how it pans out with the flying. So far, so good - no issues getting in and a nice static display. Appreciate them having the Marines F-35 and AC-130. Looking forward to the heritage flight!

I doubt it was a jet problem given the way 6 separated. Keep in mind, for a low show, the sequence is: Burner 270, Sectioned High Alpha (6 goes high), Delta rejoin. So 6 has to go from very slow flight to accelerating very quickly to rejoin. It's a tight window, but something they should have practiced enough to nail down. You can see in the video, he isn't quite set in time so he just exits and rejoins for the flat pass.
There were some more formation issues (line abreast spacing was terrible, for instance) and some opposing hits that weren't perfect, and all of that I could chalk up to weather. But the break to land in the other direction doesn't make any sense. I've never seen them do that. Weather should have been perfect today, so I'll be interested to hear from Owen how they flew.
But I'd love to read some theories. Take a look for yourself, and you be the judge.
18:29 for the rejoin miss
21:47 for the break to land
Also sharing the break to land by itself in 60fps. Probably won't make this one public.
