I don't have the answer to your question on the possible return to Nellis before the show. However, they will be practicing Friday. The norm for the Thunderbirds is a practice show is flown on Friday and typically happens right around the time they would be scheduled to perform on Saturday/Sunday. There have been instances where they have flown earlier as was the case at Dayton last year. IIRC, they went up around 1330 vs. 1530.

PERFORMANCE ADDITION
We are excited to announce that the U.S. Navy has added a LEGACY FLIGHT to the Fort Wayne Air Show this year!
This Legacy Flight is bringing together the modern U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet and the historic F4U Corsair in formation.
The F4U Corsair is credited with helping to turn the tides of the war in the Pacific during WWII.
You don’t want to miss the amazing moment when the past and present take to the skies together to show the rich aviation history of the U.S. Navy.

Kyle Franklin won't be coming to Fort Wayne this weekend.
-Canceled Performance Fort Wayne Airshow-
Unfortunately we had to cancel our scheduled performance at the Fort Wayne Air Show this weekend. Liz tested positive for COVID-19. At this point she is doing fairly well but showing the standard symptoms. We’re not sure if it’s going to just be a mild case or if it will get severe. I myself still tested negative but obviously have been exposed to it. I’m not willing to leave Liz at home with Covid and no one to help her nor would we want to risk exposing anyone at the show. We want to thank all the producers and staff at the Fort Wayne Airshow for hiring us and thank them and all our fans for your understanding. We are hoping and praying that this will be a quick and fast recovery so we can get back to flying and entertaining. -Kyle

I had an awesome time at the show! It flowed a lot better than 2019 when if I remember correctly they had to pause quite often to let commercial traffic come and go. The breaks this year were consolidated to one in the middle of the day and one before the Thunderbirds for maybe a little over an hour between the two but I wasn't really paying attention to the down time. The weather also cooperated this year both days, and there was a nice breeze most of Sunday so it didn't feel as warm as it was. I think Danny Clisham only referred to "Fort Wayne" as "Fort Worth" a handful of times over the weekend  .

Came down on Friday evening for the welcome party, I was just down there long enough to grab a beverage, catch the last couple of songs by the Ft. Wayne Funk Orchestra, and grab a food truck lobster roll to take back to the hotel - but the Thunderbirds, Blacksnakes, and Para-Commandos were mingling with the crowd. I think I liked it at the ballpark a little better because everyone was more spread out but it was a fun atmosphere and worth a stop on the way into town.

I didn't have any issues with parking or getting through security arriving around 8:30 but getting out was a bit of a mess as you can imagine, especially on Saturday. Couldn't believe how long the line was for the shuttles at the end of the day Saturday, fortunately I parked in the walk-in lot.

Enjoyed all of the flying, normally I'm not a huge fan of the aerobatic acts but Tinstix of Dynamite was a lot more exciting than I was expecting and I wouldn't be disappointed to see it on another schedule in the future!

For statics, I was most excited about the C-5, I haven't seen one before so that was pretty neat. No C-17 or CV-22, but they did have a Chinook (which I haven't seen since I was but a lad in the 90s) and a USMC F-35B which did a flyby on the way out on Sunday.

Looking forward to seeing what they can put together next time.

I like looking at statics for the most part but photo-wise I get frustrated by the hoards of people around so they're usually not my cup of tea for photography. Since I may never get caught up on photos from the last couple years, here are a handful of quick ones from this show.
