Per PlanesTV's newsletter today, for the first time there will be a free livestream from the Air Tattoo. It will also be the first time ever that arrivals and departure days have been broadcast live.

PlanesTV intend to broadcast live all day for arrivals/rehearsals on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th July, and for a brief period during departures on Monday 18th July, free to view on PlanesTV's YouTube channel: youtube.com/c/planestv

The main show days (Friday 15th-Saturday 17th July) will be broadcast on PlanesTV's subscription service for paying subcribers only. It's just £10 a month - the same cost as watching just one day from the Air Tattoo under the old pay-per-view system - and that gets you access to all three show days PLUS PlanesTV's 40-year archive of other airshow material. To sign up, visit https://watch.planestv.com/

Very much looking forward to being part of the team for this and I hope plenty of people will be joining us virtually from around the world.

Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation no longer has RIAT on their schedule.
https://www.airforceheritageflight.org/schedule
If you look at the July section of this website, its either a typo or an indication that the F-35A Demo Team might perform at Farnborough instead.

Innovative aviation company, 2Excel Aviation, has been welcomed as partner by the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) ahead of this year’s show.

The company’s aircraft will be on display in July at RAF Fairford.

Air Marshal Phil Osborn, Chair of the RAF Charitable Trust, RIAT’s organising body, visited Sywell Aerodrome to meet with Scott Loughran, 2Excel’s Commercial Director, to officially induct the company into the RIAT family.

Scott has a history with RIAT. He was the RAF’s Typhoon Display pilot in both 2009 and 2012. He won the award from the organisers for ‘Best Solo Display’ in 2012. Ten years on, he’ll be revisiting as a corporate supporter.

Scott said: “I thoroughly enjoyed being a participant at RIAT, it is an excellent showcase of military capability. 2Excel is delighted to be working with the RAF Charitable Trust team and contributing to what will be a fantastic event.”

Air Marshal Phil Osborn said: “The aviation community have watched 2Excel with great admiration over the last few years and we are therefore excited to welcome them to RIAT22. Their dynamism, drive and versatility match perfectly the spirit of RIAT. Their ethos also aligns perfectly with the RAF Charitable Trust, which seeks to inspire young people to achieve their potential in air, space and technology.”

Sywell Aerodrome is the home of 2Excel, and the base of The Blades, the world’s only aerobatic airline, and whose pilots are all former Red Arrows. The team made its debut appearance at RIAT 2019 and will be flying in on the show’s opening day, Friday 15th July.

What an excellent update! I was only just saying to a friend, wouldn't it be nice if Ireland could surprise us and send the Silver Swallows for the trainer theme, and here they are!

Silver Swallows - x4 PC-9 -Irish Air Corps (F)
F-15E Strike Eagle x2 - 48FW USAF (S)
F-35A Lightning II - 48FW USAF (S)
M28 Bryza - Polish Navy (S)
Super Tucano - Embraer (S)
Hunter T.72 - HHA (S)
First up this week, we're pleased to announce the 48th Fighter Wing will be supporting this year's Air Tattoo in style. As well as a Strike Eagle from each squadron, this will be the first time seeing their new Lightnings on static display at RIAT. In addition, we are discussions with a number of other United States Air Force units who hope to participate at RIAT 2022, with the approvals process ongoing.

The Irish Air Corps celebrates their Centenary this year, and to mark the occasion will be sending a fourship display of their Pilatus PC-9M aircraft to perform in the flying display, in a reformation of their Silver Swallows Display Team. We're pleased to welcome them to RAF Fairford, with their participation also very appropriate for our training theme.

Despite the Polish Armed Forces being at extremely high alert and all of their aircraft fleets operating at high intensity, we are honoured that they are still keen to participate at RIAT. They will be sending an M28 Bryza for static display, joining our growing selection of maritime patrol aircraft on static display at the show.

Finally this week, additional civilian operated aircraft join the static displays. Hawker Hunter Aviation will bring their Hunter T72 for its first RIAT appearance and Embraer their Super Tucano for exhibition as a showcase display.

Black Eagles now official!
In a very special aircraft participation announcement, the Royal International Air Tattoo is pleased and honoured to confirm the undoubted stars of the flying display RIAT 2022: The Republic of Korea Air Force’s national display team, the Black Eagles.

Flying the KAI T-50B Golden Eagle, the Black Eagles are considered one of the best display teams in the world and previously appeared a decade ago at RIAT 2012 where they won the best overall flying display and were voted the best display by the Friends of RIAT. RIAT will be part of a 2022 European tour and the only UK venue at which they will perform their full display. Their visit to RAF Fairford has taken many months of planning and without the assistance of the Royal Air Force would not have been possible.

Interesting note in the press release:
In fact, RIAT will be the only UK event where visitors can experience the Black Eagles' full exhilarating display
Understandable that they can't do a "full" show at Farnborough, but Southport? Mind you, it's the same press release that "this time, they are returning with eight even more advanced KAI T-50B jets" - which is not only the type of aircraft they brought last time, but they'll be attending with most or all of the exact same airframes, so maybe it shouldn't be relied upon for accuracy of the finer details.

We're delighted to be able to confirm a large contingent of aircraft from the Italian Air Force will be heading to RIAT 2022! The Frecce Tricolori are always one of the highlights of the RIAT flying display, and they will be joined by a host of solo displays from the Reparto Sperimentale di Volo. In addition, we'll be welcoming a number of aircraft for static display, highlight of which will be a final appearance of the AMX before it's retirement from service... Viva Italia!

Aircraft from RAF Mildenhall join the USAF 75th Anniversary celebrations at RIAT 2022! The 352nd Special Operations Wing will exhibit their MC-130J & CV-22B on static display, accompanied by their specailist vehicles and equipment. We will also have the legendary KC-135 Stratotanker on static display.

Work continues behind the scenes on the flying display scheduling, and static display parking plan. We are in a very strong position at this stage, with the static displays now looking extremely full with more aircraft to be announced in the coming weeks once the final approvals are in place for their participation. In addition, we are planning to extend the duration of the flying display due to the number of notified participants!

We're pleased that our friends from the RAF Microlight Flying Association, Halton Aero Club and RAF Waddington Flying Club will all be returning to RIAT, with their aircraft joining the static displays as part of our Training theme.

Sadly, we have been notified this week that the Finnish Army are no longer able to attend RIAT 2022. In addition, two civilian aircraft have also withdrawn from the static
Italian Air Force - Frecce Tricolori - x10 AT-339PAN (F)
Italian Air Force - T-346A Master (F/S)
Italian Air Force - C-27J Spartan (F)
Italian Air Force - F-2000A Typhoon (F) (briefly listed as an Afghan Typhoon on the RIAT website!)
Italian Air Force - AMX A-11B Ghibli (S)
Italian Air Force - T-339A (S)
Italian Air Force - P.180AM Avanti (SP)
US Air Force - KC-135R Stratotanker (S)
US Air Force - MC-130J Commando II (S)
US Air Force - CV-22B Osprey (S)
Reims-Cessna F152 - Halton Aero Club (S)
Tecnam P2002JF Sierra - Halton Aero Club (S)
Tecnam P2008JC - RAF Waddington Flying Club (S)
Ikarus C42B - RAF Microlight Flying Association (S)
Evektor EV-97 Eurostar - RAF Microlight Flying Association (S)

After several weeks flashing amber, the Croatian Air Force has sadly been moved to the "declined" list. Another very solid update, though.
