#OTD in 1942, US Army Air Force aircraft launched their first raid from a new base on Adak island in Alaska which had started construction only 13 days earlier! In the raid, 12 B-24 Liberators, 14 P-38 Lightnings, and 14 P-39 Airacobras attacked Japanese forces at Kiska island, sinking two Japanese ships, damaging three more, and destroying three midget submarines, several buildings, and 12 Japanese floatplane fighters.
