On this date in 1973, the Fairchild YA-10 was announced as the winner of the A-X flyoff over the Northrop YA-9. Today you know the winner as the bringer of the brrrrrrrrt...the A-10 Warthog. How tough are they? This tough.

On this date in 1951, while flying a Republic F-84E Thunderjet with the 27th Fighter Escort Group (FEG), Lieutenant Colonel William E. Bertram shot down a MiG-15 over Korea. This was the first aerial victory for the F-84E.
