On this date in 1962, the US Navy loaned a pair of F-4B Phantom IIs to the US Air Force for evaluation, who designated them F-110A and named them Spectre. The rest is history!

Good morning Avgeekery Nation! Our eye opener this morning is the Saab 340- first flown on this date in 1983. The 459 airframes built have been hauling passengers since 1984 and more recently been adapted to the airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) and maritime security missions.

On this date in 1958 the Lockheed F-104 went into service with the US Air Force. The Lawn Dart story has more twists and turns than a bowl of spaghetti

61 years since the first flight of the Convair 880.
On this date in 1959, Convair's 880 jetliner flew for the first time. The 65 examples built were initially operated by Cathay Pacific, Delta, Japan, Northeast, Swissair, TWA, and VIASA. NASA and the US Navy (as the UC-880) flew them too.
