Indian Air Force Retires MiG-27 from service

Post by awal2049 » Fri Dec 27, 2019 5:35 pm

I read about this earlier this week as well as today. The MiG-27 is a modified version of the swing-wing MiG-23 that is optimized for strike missions. The Indian Air Force was one of the last operators of the MiG-27 until today. They flew a final ceremonial flight before the planes are decommissioned. A video of the flight is in the article below. The IAF is the second to last military force to retire the MiG-27 from service. Only twelve of the swing-wing strike fighters are still in service in Kazakhstan.

Reading this earlier today got me thinking about how quickly the variety of aircraft types is dwindling. Some day I will wish I did more to see them flying while I could, but circumstances sure make it difficult. Kind of sad to think about

As the line from the first trailer of Top Gun 2 says: The end is inevitable Maverick. Your kind is heading towards extinction
