Second pre-series L-39NG

Our friend Alan Warnes was outside office today and pictured this Aero Vodochody L-39NG at Aero Vodochody Airport (Czechia).

Serial 0476/7004 is the second pre-series L-39NG. It flew during the afternoon of 1 April 2020. This was the second flight of this particular new military trainer/light combat aircraft, as earlier today it flew an engine air intake distortion test flight.

Of note is the grey paint in front of the intake, as well as the long (test) pitot tube.

The first pre-series L-39NG, serial number 7001, made its first flight from the same airport on 22 December 2018.

Four Alaskan C-54s to be auctioned

In Fairbanks (AK) the airport authorities have decided to start a thorough clean-up of its grounds. The first innocent victims of this clean-up will be four former Brooks Air Fuel Douglas C-54s. A company called “1stStrike.com” has organised an online auction in an attempt to sell these remaining transports. Four C-54s will go under the hammer:

C-54G N51802 (c/n 35930, former USAAF 45-0477)
C-54D N67018 (c/n 22196, former USAAF 43-17246)
C-54D N99212 (c/n 10661, former USAAF 42-72556)
C-54D N90201 (c/n 10828, former USAAF 42-72723)

Looking at the photos, only N51802 still seems to have some potential of being restored. And in case you are interested: bids have to be made before 9 April. Otherwise the axeman will do his work on these beauties!

Earlier on in March 2020, the minister of the Saudi Arabian National Guard (SANG), Prince Abdullah bin Bandar, visited the 1st Aviation Brigade at Riyadh/Khasm Alan air base (Saudi Arabia).

The base is home to the 1st Aviation Brigade, which commands the 1st Battalion flying the UH-60M, and the 2nd Battalion flying the AH-6i and AH-64E. The co-located 3rd Aviation Support Battalion does not have its own fleet.

The visit involved a nice line-up of helicopters of the 1st AB.
