Photographed at its home base Colorado Springs/City of Colorado Springs Municipal / Peterson AFB (CO) is this UV-18B Twin Otter - serial 77-0465 - operated by the 98th Flying Training Squadron / 306th FTG. It has been painted in a WW II heritage colour scheme with a large yellow 98 marking on the forward fuselage.

The mission of the 98th Flying Training Squadron is to provide parachute training for cadets. The unit's basic programme trains 1,200 students per year, with the majority of positions given to USAF Academy cadets.

The 98th FTS has its origins in 1941 in Hawaii, initially having the Douglas B-18 Bolos. The mission was to perform defensive reconnaissance over the Pacific approaches to the islands.

The 98th FTS has two UV-18Bs (77-0464 and 77-0465) and one UV-18A (82-23835) in its inventory.
