"Just a nice Picture...!"

Today an historical one: A US Air Force McDonnell Douglas F-4D Phantom II (serial 65-0696) of the 119th Fighter Group "Happy Hooligans" of the North Dakota ANG, intercepts a Russian Tupolev Tu-95 Bear over the Arctic Ocean.

The F-4D was temporary deployed to Keflavik (Iceland) in 1983 and SCRAMBLE'd to the Russian cold war threat.

"Just a nice Picture...!"

Thundering away in the evening light from Toledo/Express Airport's runway 25! The 112th Fighter Squadron's flagship Fighting Falcon was picture during the take-off run by aviation friend jeffatc28 on 16 June 2020.

The "Have Glass" Block 42 F-16CM wears the colourful tail of the 112th FS "Toledo Stingers". "Have Glass" is the code name for a series of Radar Cross Section reduction measures by special paint.

The history of the 112th Squadron with the Ohio Air National Guard dates back to May 1946. The jet age for the squadron started in October 1955, when the unit was informed that they were to receive Republic F-84E Thunderjets. But since the runways at Akron-Canton Municipal Airport (OH) were deemed inadequate for jet operations, it was decided to construct an entirely new facility for them at the new Toledo Express Airport at Toledo (OH). The unit left Akron-Canton for the Toledo Municipal Airport on 1 April 1956 and retired their Mustangs for T-28A Trojans, and operated F-84E Thunderjetss until the summer of 1958. In January 1959, the 112th's facility at the Toledo/Express Airport was ready and the unit moved to the new facility. The T-28s were replaced with new Republic F-84F Thunderstreaks and the squadron was designated as a Tactical Fighter Squadron.

"Just some exotic helicopters ...!"

Leonardo Helicopters really do have an order list for a number of nice exotic customers. And of course, in the area of the Leonardo factory airfield at Vergiate (Italy), one can see occasionally helicopters test flying.

Some of the helicopters can be photographed whilst overflying nearby Varese/Venegono on their way from and to Vergiate.

Just recently photographed were AW149 CSX81980 (construction number 49054) for the Al Quwwat Al Jawwiya Il Misriya (EAF, Egypt Air Force) and AW169 CSX81971 (c/n 69097) for the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF). The bright colours of the Qatar AW169 are from the Al Zaeem Mohamed Bin Abdullah Al Attiyah Air College.

"Just some nice Rescue Hercules' aircraft....!"

Dalibor Ankovic send us some great pictures of two HC-130J Combat King II aircraft arriving at Ramstein AB (Germany) on 8 July 2020. Both aircraft are participating in mission Silver Arrow 2020.

The two aircraft involved are 16-5873/LI (construction number 382-5873) from the 102nd RQS/106th RQW (New York ANG) based at Westhampton Beach/The Francis S. Gabreski ANGB (NY, Long Island) and 14-5864 (c/n 382-5864) from the 130th RQS/129thRQW (California ANG) based at Moffett Field (CA).

Starting back in 2017, the Silver Arrow missions provide an augmenting force to increase tactical airlift capacity to US Air Forces in Europe & Air Forces Africa during the period of highest demand. The missions are repeated on a yearly basis. The programme also focuses on US European Command (EUCOM) engagements that support NATO.

"Just a nice Picture....!"

The successor to the Kawasaki EC-1 (serial 78-1021), operated by the Electric Warfare Operation Group based at Iruma, is the Kawasaki RC-2 (serial 18-1202). It is nicely photographed by Shinji Nakada at Iruma.

The Kawasaki RC-2, much like its smaller older sister, is covered with various humps and bumps. For now, the RC-2 is still operated by the Air Development and Test Command (Koku Kaihatsu Jikken Shudan) at Gifu. The aircraft will most probably be transferred to the Electronic Warfare Operation Group in the near future.

The Kawasaki C-2 is a long range twin-engine transport aircraft. Compared to the older C-1 it replaces, the C-2 can carry payloads up to four times heavier. On 26 January 2010, the maiden flight of the XC-2 took place from Gifu Air Field. And on 6 February 2018 the second prototype (18-1202) was converted to RC-2 as an electronic intelligence platform at Gifu Air Base.

The Breda-Nardi NH500 (military designation TH-500B) in the Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force) is a dying breed. The helicopter was built and assembled in Italy from 1987 as a replacement of the AgustaBell AB47. The first two NH500Ds were delivered in 1989 to the 72° Stormo (Wing) at Frosinone (FR), followed by 50 NH-500Es from 1989.

Besides the training role, the 72° Stormo (Wing) also conducts Search and Rescue (SAR) and cross-country civil protection missions and are regularly involved in humanitarian and peace-keeping operations missions out of area.

Lake Canterno is situated near Frosinone in the Lazio Area, the same area where the capital Rome is located. The beautifull lake is located at 538 metres above sea level and set in a landscape of rolling hills and protected by a nature reserve by the same name.

Finally some nice photos of my own to share.

This C-17 did a flyby at Ann Arbor airport today. The pilot is a former instructor here and arranged a stop during a mission out of Wright-Patterson. Thanks to a tip off I was waiting to see it. We got a full low approach - awesome at a small airport like this!

“Just a nice picture”

Although already a few days ago, we would still like to share this picture of Tupolev Tu-204-300 RA-64044 of Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency.

It visited Cologne on 17 July and the visit was connected with the European Astronaut Center of ESA, which is based at Cologne.

Marc Rosenkranz was present at the airport to capture this nice visitor and was kindly enough to provide us with this picture.

"Just a nice Picture...!"

Following our report of two days ago (see Scramble Facebook News 22 July 2020, https://www.facebook.com/Scramblemagazi ... 0806963425 and www.facebook.com/Scramblemagazine/posts ... 3406779165), our contributor Jason Wong provided us a nice picture as well as some text of the "Farewell Fit for a Queen".

There is nothing more iconic in the sky than a Qantas B747 and for Australians, the Queen of the Skies, represented home. For nearly fifty years, the Qantas 747 carried generations of Australians and international visitors to and from Australian shores and was a proud symbol of the country wherever it flew. The aircraft took Australians to the world and the world to Australia.

Although at the beginning of the year Qantas had prepared a multitude of events to bid farewell to the Queen, due to the extraordinary circumstances they had to hastily change their plans and within a week of announcing the official retirement of the Jumbo, the airline managed to arrange three Joy Flights from the cities of Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.

Furthermore, they had a small event at the Qantas hangers on her last day on Australian soil and flew her on a large victory lap over Sydney which consisted of a low flyby of Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, Bondi beach, two passes over Darling Harbour, and a pass over Qantas' first 747-400 VH-OJA at the HARS aviation museum.

She will surely be missed from Australian skies and airports around the world. Happy retirement to the Qantas 747 fleet and thank you for your long and dedicated service.
