The M-346 arrived at VOLANDIA - Parco e Museo del Volo from the Leonardo plant in Venegono Superiore, and will remain on loan to the museum for at least five years. The latest of the Leonardo Company line of trainers, the M-346 is considered by many to be the best available on the market.

The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Omaka, New Zealand has just announced a major deal with the heirs of the late John R. Smith, whose extraordinary collection of vintage military aircraft has long-sheltered behind closed doors in Mapua. The museum is set to become home to several of the gems in this extraordinary collection.

As many will know, the Temora Aviation Museum (TAM), in Temora, Australia had to postpone their famous Warbirds Downunder air show due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But despite these trying times museum personnel took the opportunity to devote their energies into several in-house restoration projects currently underway. Here a brief update on recent progress.

The CAF Rocky Mountain Wing announced today that their historic TBM needs some unexpected engine work, which on our scale is not a cheap proposition, as you can imagine. If you are in a position to help even a little, they could use your support. Read all the details at the linked page.

As we mentioned in a previous article, Base Tuono Folgaria is the only museum in Europe which is dedicated solely to the Nike-Hercules NATO missile defense system and the Cold War. Situated in the Alpine foothills in north-eastern Italy, the museum has been working hard to expand their exhibition space for some years now. They plan to add a new hangar to display relevant Italian Air Force aircraft. The museum refers to this new building as Alpha, and intends to house Lockheed F-104S Starfighter MM6781, which is already on site, along with a North American F-86K Sabre and possibly a Fiat G.91.

The Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing intends to develop a PT-17 Stearman restoration program led by several of the unit’s female members as a way of honoring “Rosie the Riveter,” the cultural icon who represented the women workers in factories and shipyards during World War II. Meet Robyn, Alisa and Robin, the Wings’s three Rosie the Riveter who will restore their Stearman. Please consider supporting their restoration effort and honor all the American Rosie the Riveters at www.cafstearman.com #pt17stearman #warbirdrestoration

The B-25 History Project is an organization dedicated to the preservation of the immortal North American B-25 Mitchell. They have also been working hard to preserve actual Mitchell airframes and components, and recently acquired a rare, original 8-gun nose section, a component which only a handful of preserved B-25s currently wear.

Dutch B-25 Mitchell is airworthy again!

After 3 years of maintenance the famous Dutch B-25 Mitchel successfully completed it’s second test flight today after the first test flight last October showed a few technical problems that needed to be fixed. The Koninklijke luchtmacht Historische Vlucht operates one of only two airworthy B-25 Mitchell bombers in Europe with the Flying Bulls Austria being the other operator of this rare aircraft. PH-XXV was originally delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force as 44-29507 but it is currently in Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) colours. The team already started preparations and training to demonstrate Mitchell at the European Airshows. It is highly unlikely that we will see it at the airshows this year but we are certainly looking forward to seeing it in 2021!

The Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing has begun restoring a Stearman (Boeing) N2S-2 Kaydet which they acquired last August. A lot has happened in the interim; indeed the unit acquired a second air frame from near Austin, Texas in February.
