Twilight F-35 takeoff

Post by Dave16hc » Mon Jun 29, 2020 2:54 am

Hi all,

Thought I would share a short video I took with my son in December 2019. 2 USAF F-35s out of Luke AFB were visiting Moffett Field, staging for the 49ers anthem flyby.

My 7 year old and I were on the way to the movies when we drove past the base and noticed the F-35s parked in the distance. That reminded me about the night game starting in a few hours. I gave my son the option of continuing to the movies, or diverting to a 3 mile trail walk to the runway of the base in hopes of catching the jets depart.

Well, the boy did his dad proud and chose the F-35s. We drove to the nearest trail access and started the trek. About 1/2 mile to the runway, I heard the whine of the engines warming up. I threw the boy on my shoulders and ran the rest of the way. We reached the end of the runway just as the F-35s were taxiing and got the following footage. My boy was all psyched up and hooting afterwards for the long walk in the dark back to the car, and was rewarded with a return pass as the jets came in for a landing.

I was a great evening with my son and now we make regular trips out to Moffett in hopes of catching more great plane spotting. Sorry for the long post, but wanted to share a bit with the site that gives me great info. Thanks

Some bonus AN-124 action from this morning. Love these big-uns just as much as the fighters.
