31 years ago to the day the F-117A Stealth Fighter dropped the first bombs of the war to open up operation Desert Storm Jan 17, 1991. The Knighthawk/Black Jet was cool. It was different. It wasn't glamorous, but was mysterious and fun when it showed up. I am jealous that I don't live close to Cali to see this amazing jet still flying some 41 years after its first flight. Here are some highlights of the F-117 during its staging out of Glenview NAS for the Chicago Air & Water Show in Aug of 1992. The 117 made some awesome low passes and showed off a bit which was fun to see!!

Taken from Mar-April 1994, and saw a ton of great transient aircraft come through, including a few highlight videos I have already previously uploaded, such as the VF-43 Challengers, AV-8B's from VMA-231, F-18's from VMFA-321 and then of course more RAF Jaguars!! We even had Canadian CT-114 Tutors, E-2B Hawkeye, C-2 Greyhound make an appearance.

This was an outstanding video at Glenview NAS from May-June 1994. Tons of great transient aircraft. Great landing and departures, flyby's all in all was a great highlight video at GNAS. Sadly this was the start of the end for GNAS as it would be closing its doors in less than a year. The aircraft that did show up seemed to make sure they knew it was their last time visiting GNAS. Even the one and only time I saw F-14A Tomcats from VF-84 Jolly Rogers and VF-301 Devil's Disciples make a visit to GNAS! The VF-84 Jolly Rogers were highlighted in a previous video. VF-84 was on their way to shutting down and sending their Tomcasts to the boneyard and GNAS just so happened to be on their route and stopped in for a gas n go with 5 Tomcats!!

At Glenview NAS we saw a lot of A-6E Intruders. Here are some highlights of some Intruders arriving and departing Glenview NAS in 1994. 94 just so happened to be the last full year of GNAS before it closed flying operations in Feb 1995. At the same time the Intruders began slowing down their visits as they slowly started being phased out and retired (1996) in favor of F-18's (before the super bug) and F-14Ds. Below are the squadrons we saw in 1994.
VA-42 Thunderbolts (92-94) 516 & 513
VA-304 Firebirds
VA-95 Green Lizards

The final chapter was upon us and in those last months at Glenview NAS we were trying to soak in as much as we could knowing that the end was near... Taken from Sept-Oct in 1994, there were a ton of transient aircraft that visited for what was most likely the last time. We had a ton of great flyby's and takeoffs from a lot of jets knowing it would be the last time they would visit Glenview Naval Air Station.

Notables:
F-14A Tomcats (3x) VF-41 Black Aces
F-14A Tomcat VF-102 Diamondbacks
F-18C Hornet VFA-204 River Rattlers

Glenview NAS Sept-Oct 1991 restored quality with low takeoffs from F-14 Tomcats A-10s, an A-7, T-2s, S-3s, A-6Es and EA-6B Prowlers to name a few!! This was a fun time with great memories from this time!!

During Aug of 1991 an F-14A Tomcat had engine failure of one of its engines while taking off from Glenview NAS. We didn't find out about the engine failure until a couple days later. The crew in the Tomcat from VF-111 Sundowners were too late to abort and were actually seconds away from ejecting! Thankfully for the crew, Tomcat and everyone around... none of that happened. And we were treated to a super low Tomcat takeoff!!!
