GEICO Skytyper Down In NY 5/30

One of the GEICO Skytyper SNJs has crashed in Melville, NY. No word on the pilot yet but photos show a fiery crash scene. Fingers crossed.

The location the plane crashed at is very near the Republic Airport where the team is based.

The team was scheduled to perform this weekend at the NAS Patuxent River Air Expo in MD.

The pilot has been identified as Ken Johansen.
The Skytypers identified the pilot as Ken Johansen, 52, a professional airline pilot who was a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and a Naval aviator. He is survived by his wife and two children.
