USS Tripoli (LHA-7) Enters Service With US Navy

Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Wed Jul 22, 2020 12:05 am

The USS Tripoli (LHA-7), the second America-class amphibious assault ship, officially entered the US Navy fleet on 15 July 2020.

The ship, already delivered to the US Navy in February 2020, will be prepared to be home-ported at Naval Base San Diego (CA) in the fall of 2020.

The lead ship of the class, USS America (LHA-6) as well as Tripoli, can accommodate the MV-22B Osprey and F-35B Lighting II and CH-53E, UH-1Y and AH-1Z helicopters.

Tripoli is a 45,000-ton ship and is equipped with hybrid propulsion that uses electric motors to drive the ship when traveling under twelve knots.

The ship will be the last in the class as the next ship is an improved redesign and named USS Bougainville (LHA-8). This class will include a well deck and capability to launch surface connectors to bring Marines ashore.
