I used to be much more focused on trying to get really good photos at airshows, but have gotten a lot more casual in recent years - sometimes I like to just put the camera down and experience the planes instead of chasing them through a viewfinder. Was pretty happy with this one, though.

Outstanding shot. And yeah... Megan gives me hell for that. At Davenport I barely even picked the camera up (lighting is crappy there anyway, and how many thousands of Blue Angel or Aeroshell photos do you need?) it was pretty nice to just sit and watch, and she said hey you are actually enjoying a show instead of making work out of it!

I was in awe at the size of the show and the share volume of people, stalls, planes etc.! The people there were unbelievably friendly and nice, and I couldn’t believe how clean everything was – no litter, the toilets were always clean. For an event of that size, everything just runs so seamless! Being there for the week, I was a little disappointed by the amount of repetition in the schedule, by mid-week I was able to finish the announcers sentences. I thought there may’ve been more demonstrations by your military too, like some of the transporter aircraft/refuelers. Rather than some of the processions of smaller civilian aircraft just flying loops for 15-20 minutes, why not do a take-off and landing competition to make things interesting? I thought it may’ve been just me, but it seemed like each day there were periods where the crowd just switched off what was going on in the air. Interested to hear others thoughts though, Well done to all involved, especially all the volunteers – some of them don’t have the most glamorous of jobs and it can be pretty hot, but they always do everything with a smile on their face and were so helpful. Thank you Oshkosh!
Brenrox, I was there Fri-Sat. The F-22 was awesome and watching the F-35C's arrival on Friday was real cool. I agree with you on repetition of performers, esp civilian stunt planes ad nauseam - needed to be a better balance. The "Year of the Fighter" should have been more prolific in terms of modern military aircraft presence in the air. It was disappointing considering previous years. I counted about 4 F-18s & 2 F-15s in the demo staging area, presumably accompanied their statics. Would it be so hard to ask them to do a couple of simple straight flybys? Mix it up! The F-35 was scheduled Saturday (but no-show) but I guess to fly over from the Milwaukee airshow some 50 or so miles south (where one was performing) was too much. Would have been cool if the F-35C static could have flown Saturday. The A-10s were great as always.

Well, EAA is not really a military show. Only being there Friday/Saturday is a limiting factor since many things come and go, but.... F-22, F-35A/C, A-10, F-15 both light gray and mud hen, Growler and Super Hornet, FJ4, MiG-17, A-4, Firefly, Mosquito, Spitfire, P-40, F6F, F8F, Sea Fury, mass Mustangs, XP-82, F-16 appearance by the Thunderbirds, Legacy Hornets by the Blues, well without much European presence I'm not sure how many more fighter airframes you can expect to show up on one field in North America.
